Defense Acquisition University Training - The Escape Room
What’s the best way to teach defense contract specialists how to design supportable weapons systems — and make it interesting?
By throwing them into an Escape Room, that’s how!
In close collaboration with a scriptwriter from Cybermedia Technologies Corp, Rock Creek’s producers helped craft a physical Escape Room. The story was that contracting specialists had been sequestered by their boss to research and solve riddles in order to escape (and learn course content along the way.)
Rock Creek was tasked with designing a large Escape Room set in our video production studio in Washington DC. It was created to be a mind-bender where contract specialists played by actors scrambled to unlock codes, find hidden keys, and break out in the nick of time. All these clues and puzzles were trapped in a closed-circuit Escape Room master to guide the action.
The challenges of the brief were twofold.
First off, Rock Creek was responsible for designing and building a physical set in which both the actors and the camera have a 360-degree field of view. And then there were a dozen puzzles requiring custom-made props to be incorporated into 5,500 sq.ft of space.
Within these parameters, Rock Creek Productions had to shoot about 32-minutes of memorized content in just four days: a tall order.
Rock Creek’s experienced production team worked hard to bring the intricacies of the script to life by supporting the scriptwriter in crafting workable puzzles, and designing and making purpose-made props and set pieces.
Shooting over a tight 4-day timeline was made possible with thorough production planning, an experienced cadre of actors and a specialist production crew. Rock Creek successfully realized the client’s vision and cemented its reputation as a government video production specialist, resulting in multiple awards, including a 2023 Telly.
